“Contentment”
Service conducted by
Srimati Karuna, Minister
Sunday Bulletin
What is the key to our contentment?
Is it simply to live without desire? We don’t want to feel numb to the beauty of life. On the contrary, we want to be totally “awake” to the state of joyous existence. But if we live without spiritual idealism and wise guidance, we are bound to experience barriers to the realization of bliss.
“The days that make us happy make us wise.”
John Masefield
”Friendship, compassion, gladness, and right understanding of the facts of duality such as pleasure and pain, good and evil, bring subjective illumination and create inner serenity.”
Patanajali’s Yoga Sutras
From Raja Yoga: The Yoga of God-Realization by Swami Premananda
"If the moon and sun loom larger; if the heavens above whatever continent on which you stand look infinitely higher; if the stars seem brighter — then recognize the height to which your own being has soared.
If the winds smell sweeter; if the salty ocean breeze, the fragrance of mountain flowers or the musky dew of stream-beds linger in your senses, then know that your spirit has been fed.
If the thunder and lightning seem grand and powerful, you have heard the call of the Almighty. If the rains afterwards clear and freshen your mind’s skies, let them bring more ethereal and comprehensive thoughts. Let Nature’s self-renewing climate help you to grow more intellectually and spiritually. It is your own soul speaking through your cosmic nature, bringing the revelation of glorification.”
