Speaks on “Rest in the Lord”
Sunday, January 26, 2020

This Sunday we will be blessed to hear the beautiful aria “O Rest in the Lord” from Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah”. We will hear these sublime and thought-provoking words: O rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him, And He shall give thee thy heart’s desires. We may ask: what are these “heart’s desires”, the fulfillment of which God will grant us? And how do they differ from the “desire” condemned so adamantly by Lord Krishna in the 3rd chapter of the Bhagavad Gita: “ It is the insatiable desire or violent anger born of possession; know this to be the greatest enemy of the world As flame is enveloped by smoke, as a mirror by dust, as an embryo by the amnion, so the Self remains veiled by objective desire.”
