Sunday Bulletin

What happens when we desire something and that desire goes unfulfilled? Do we become shattered when life does not meet our expectations?

Is it possible to give up desire? What grants us the power to control our desires, passions and fears? What is the path of renunciation?

Amidst all our desires, wishes and dreams lies an eternal truth. Within that truth all desires find their culminating perfection. It is our true desire.

“I have neither aversion nor attachment, neither greed nor delusion; Neither egotism nor envy, neither Dharma nor Moksha; I am neither desire nor objects of desire; I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute—
I am He, I am He. (Shivoham, Shivoham)”

—From Nirvanashatkam, or Six Stanzas on Nirvana
(Translation of poem by Shankaracharya, included in “The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda”)
