Is it any wonder that words become to us a sacred means of realization? From our prayers to holy scriptures, psalms, songs and chants that guide us inward, we know the power of sacred words.
The time of Ramadan beholds an observance and remembrance of divine revelation. Muhammad was meditating in a cave on Mount Hira when he saw the Angel Jibril. The angel commanded him to read or recite. The word iqraʾ (of classical Arabic origin) means "read/recite" and is believed by Muslims to be the first word revealed to Muhammad in the Qur’an. Muhammad had never been taught to read or write yet the words revealed to him over the next 23 years became the message of the Qur’an.
“In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God,
and the word was God.”
John 1:1
“Read, ˹O Prophet,˺ in the Name of your Lord Who created—
created humans from a clinging clot
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,
Who taught by the pen—
taught humanity what they knew not.
Qur’an 96: 1-5
“Utterance of enlightening, true, courteous and constructive words, and chanting of mantrams, the specific sacred words, constitute the righteousness of speech.”

of the Srimad-Bhagavad-Gita 17:15
