“What Virtues?”
Service conducted by
Srimati Karuna, Minister
Sunday Bulletin
What virtues do we have? How do we cultivate them?
Life, it would seem, would become so much easier and more pleasant if only we could live by the inherent virtues of our divine being. Why does it become so difficult to adhere to this simple premise?
“Soul is not subject to the conditions of the senses. The faculties of the senses may diminish but the powers of the soul are everlasting. Sensory samskaras have no influence upon the Soul. Soul transcends all personal characteristics. In fundamental substance it is identical in all. Soul is eternally pure in its qualities, holy in its nature and divine in its essence. Soul is the supreme Spirit within us.
”Like rays from the sun, all qualities of righteousness emanate from soul. All virtues and excellence, purity and nobleness are enshrined within us. The fruit of spiritual endeavor is the fullest unfolding of all these qualities of righteousness.”
—Swami Premananda
The Blessedness of the Inner Life
“It is not man’s duty to develop all his faculties to perfection. His duty is to develop all his godward faculties to perfection. It is inherent in man, imperfect though he is, ceaselessly to strive after perfection.”
—Mahatma Gandhi
