“Awaken Compassion”

Srimati Karuna, Minister

Compassion is that state when we see all living beings as part of our own self, and when everyone's suffering is seen as our own suffering. It springs up by considering that all beings, like ourselves, wish to be free from suffering, yet despite their wishes continue to be afflicted by pain, fear, and sorrow. We feel another’s woes as our own. But compassion is also more than just a placid state. It is an active force.

“Subtler than the subtle, greater than the great, is the Self that resides in the hearts of all beings. “

Svetasvatara Upanishad
Eight Upanishads
Translation by Swami Premananda

”May thy compassion guide my conduct in this world to what is righteous, harmonious and beneficial to all Thy creatures as my kin. May thy compassion open my heart to bring comfort, peace and happiness in all personal relationships. May Thy compassion illumine my soul with Thy truth and love always.”

Reflections on Still Waters
Swami Kamalananda

“One whose heart is pure and free from thoughts of enmity; who carries no ill feeling towards one from whom injury comes; who is endowed with the divine power of forgiveness and with the acquired strength of self-discipline. One who possesses the right vision of subjective idealism; who is well established in the practice of virtue; whose consciousness reveals the inherent divinity in all; and whose life is a perfect expression of the inner realization of truth: Such a person of self-effort and self-realization is a true friend of humanity.”

Dhammapada: The Path of the Eternal Law
Translation by Swami Premananda
