“Salt of the Earth”

Sunday Bulletin

”You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.”

How do we live in humility and at the same time, not hide our light of illumination and truth? How can we live in the world but not of the world? We have the seeming contradictions of form and formlessness, of matter and spirit. But to live by the ideal of advaita, of absolute oneness, we must transcend the maya of duality.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bushel. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5: 13-16

”I live with you, O Nature, as my own Soul.
Thy life courses through my veins
Forming us as one cosmic body from the word of God.

You are the Nature of my Universal Self
Whose heartbeat is my own.

The light of heaven and earth,
of my mind and all minds emanates from thy
One Light—
projected for the miracle
that my mind will never grasp.

We share the secret of immortality
and perfection.
I am at home in thy formlessness.
I am at peace in thy harmony.
I am illumined in thy light.”
