“Pure Devotion”

The ideal of bhakti yoga is that of pure devotion. The Bhavagad Gita describes one who is dear by all the virtues of unconditional love. The Bible explains that among faith, hope and love, the greatest of these is love. The Dammapada reveals that it is a pure heart that brings peace. The Qur’an describes the many names of God that reflect the qualities of love. Every expression of devotion to the Beloved has a message for us. That message lies in the power of love.

“When the mystic speaks of ‘heart’ he does not mean the organ in the chest but a quality of consciousness. Who hasn’t observed it in himself: When he is joyous beyond anything sensory his heart feels light and expansive. When his heart expands in peace and happiness he feels transformed, virtually a changed person by consciousness perceived through his heart. Truly speaking, life is ‘formed’ from our heart, and our whole spirit is reflected in its quality.”
